Our corporate strategy and mission is built on two pillars:
Coaching of people with illnesses and organising adventure sports travels
FIT ADVENTURE SPORTS TRAVELS, our travels open hearts !
Our travels open hearts of seriously ill people. For example, ice-skating at unique and unknown destinations in the world. It not only brings people together, but it leads to interesting and unforeseen getting to know each other and living and working together. FIT Adventure Sports Travels offer unique experiences, healthy excitement, challenges and opportunities for self-development. Enhancing ones performance gives people a growing self-esteem, even – as was the case at the finish line during one of our travels – when people turn out to be terminally ill. They had overcome mental and emotional drawbacks, showing running tears out of sheer happiness! A very special moment for us all. FIT Adventure Sports Travels strives to show its ‘heart and soul’ commitment for reaching and realising these types of goals and objectives!
During a subsequent commercial fair I told this to Miel in ’t Zand, president of the “Topsport for Life” foundation. It ultimately lead to the present synergy between Topsport for Life and FIT Adventure Sports Travels.
Topsports for Life is an initiative of some (ex) professional sports-people, who committed themselves to their core objective: improving the life of people with life-threatening diseases.
Together with Topsport for Life FIT Adventure Sports Travels triest o accomplish the common mission by organizing unique and adventurous travels. Critically sick people (e.g. with cancer or ALS) and their partners experience a ‘better life’ because of the personal performance and attention, shown by these professional sports people. ‘Better’ here means a higher quality of life for the critically sick people, even when their doesn’t seem to be any perspective on future recovery.
As opposed to the professional people, who during their active sports life were constantly helped by coaches and supporting staff, critically sick people fight their ‘big battle’ usually on their own. Certainly when the medical treatment has stopped or further therapy isn’t possible anymore.
Topsport for Life and FIT Adventure Sports Travels recognise these parrallels and offer support, based on a ‘topsports’philosophy: through our commitment and performance ‘patients’ and partners experience life as more bearable and pleasant. They manage to ‘live a better life’with their life-threatening diseases. “Our further understanding of the people’s obejectives when confronted with their possible death indicates lesser needs for additional research on the causes of their illness, rather than living more pleasantly in the ‘here and now’. A suitably curing medicine will probably come too late for them. They very much live here and now and want to continue doing so”.
Since many initiatives are already undertaken for seriously ill children, we aim at adults (minimum 18 years of age) with life-threatening diseases.
